This is definitely part of a larger post I need to explore, but came across a link that got me thinking. Came across a link via GigaOm about FileBrowser.io, a new open source file browser to help manage the issues of online data repositories – or what I’m calling the ‘Data Deluge’. Fascinating. I wonder how connecting third party tools like this and Hojoki (RIP! Now trying out CatchApp, sadly) can work together – and how we can build an ecosystem connecting all of these data repositories. asked synonym I’m really hoping we’re at the start of true Digital Lifestyle Aggregation, where we can make meaning out of all of this data, and less hunting and pecking for the data we need so we can take action on it. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve missed because I’m chasing after the source – and I can’t keep up with events even if I have a good tool like Google Calendar, or great sources of events. That’s just events – how about emails, recipes, music, reading material or anything else? How do we address the data deluge? Every app we download creates another repository, and we’re consuming and creating new content at an alarming rate. What will we do to organize silos for our own use as individuals, let alone to collaborates as a team? I wish I could say I’m inspired by the tools, but I worry about the implications of all of this data, and that the tools seem like a boy sticking his finger in the dyke rather than the Hoover Dam. I see ways that we answer the problem of too much data – Big Data and analytics, prediction software, search tools, better design – but little to change our behavior on how we consume data, or how to change how we use it.
